What is a Sales Funnel? How To Create An Online Sales Funnel?

In general, sales funnels are the process that turns a person into a customer.

    Let’s look at a brick-and-mortar sales funnel.

For instance let's say you are the owner of a clothing store. A the top of your sales funnel, people are walking by your store, some of them note your products and decide to walk in by entering in the next step of your funnel.

Inside the store, the customer starts to look at the products he likes and ask information to the sales team that will be interested to gain trust and they will give him all the requested info and will show other products that match the first.

If the sales team did a great job, the customer will leave after purchasing the product he was interested in plus others suggested by them, or anyway he will back to look at your products the next time by becoming a  new loyal customer.

This same process plays out for every business in one way or the other. Your sales funnel could exist as:

    Retail store

    Sales team

    Website

    Email

    Personal consultation

Any marketing channel can be part of your sales funnel. And your funnel might be spread across several channels.

Why is a sales funnel important?

Your sales funnel show the path prospects take.

Analyzing your funnel you find the holes inside it — the places where prospects drop out and never convert and will give you the chance to optimize it by improving a lot the conversion rate of your marketing strategy.

How Does a sales funnel work - Understand the 4 Sales Funnel Stages

Essentially, there are for sales funnel stages that we can join in the acronym AIDA: Awareness, Interest, Decision, and Action. These Are the four stages involved in your customer's purchasing process.

To apply an effective marketing strategy you have to send  the right message for each step of your funnel. This means you have to provide different approaches for each stage.

It’s kind of like a waiter asking you what you want for dessert before you’ve even ordered drinks and appetizers.

    Awareness

This is the stage when your customer will know you. This could happen because He notes your store or maybe thanks to your Facebook page or a post shared by a friend into the social media.

Your prospect becomes aware of your business and what you offer.

In some cases and if your consumers can easily find a lot of information about your products he will buy immediately, but in most cases, the awareness stage is more of a courtship. You are conquering your customer which will begin to engage more with your business.

    Interest

In the interest phase of your sales funnels, your customers are researching your product's offer and comparison with your competitors to be sure about the option they will choose.

In this phase your have not to sell to them but help them with quality content and info about what they are looking for. You could present your story, or the way you make your job and what they have to choose you.

If you push your products or service from the beginning, it's very likely they will go away from your business and will never buoy your products.

The goal here is to establish your expertise, help the consumer make an informed decision, and offer to help them in any way you can.

    Decision

This is the phase when the customer wants to buy. Probably is taking into consideration different options, you're included.

This is the right moment to present your indispensable offer. You could include a discount code or bonus or free shipping.

It's the case to create a unique occasion that the customer cannot give up.

    Action

If you did a great job this one is your favorite stage. The action is when she or he will buy your product or service and will become your new customer.

In this phase is not just important to sell him your product but you want he's satisfied and express gratitude for the purchase by leaving some positive feedback ( for instance an online review) that could invite other people to purchase your products or services.

After that we covered the whole process involved in a sales funnel is time to know how to create an online sales funnel.

Now, here are the five steps to follow to construct your own simple online sales funnel.

How to create an online sales funnel

    1. Create a great landing page.

The landing page of your funnel is maybe the most important because it is the one that establishes the first impression your potential customers will instantly have of your business.

    1. It has to be direct and looks great.

The main goal of your landing page is to encourage your visitor to sign up on your mailing list. This is the page thanks to you will collect important contact information by establishing a line of communication. It's the first step in your marketing strategy.

Without this fundamental piece, your marketing strategy will become inapplicable

    2. Present a front-end offer.

The next step is when you will present the opportunity to buy to your potential customers.

According to Todd Brown of MarketingFunnelAutomation.com,  "When constructing your main front-end products and associated upsell offers, you should be engineering them with the additional mindset of . . . how will this help create more desire for the next [backend] offer [you're] going to present them with."

In other words, at this step you should be “pre-selling” on the next step in the funnel.

    3. Give an upsell offer on the back end, and offer a downsize option as well

When you sell your products your work is not finished. Indeed, it's a good idea to plan different plans for your product. Offer your customers who just bought or are about to buy a product or service the opportunity to upsize, or upgrade that service.

For instance, you could offer a complete basic plan but limited in some features. This will leave your customers satisfied and at the same time will push them to upgrade to take all the potential benefits of your offer. This strategy is called an upsell.

How you offered the opportunity to upgrade your plans, It could be good practice to include the downgrade option. This one doesn't represent a failure but will prevent you from losing those customers looking for a cheaper offer.

    4. Conquer your customer's loyalty

The last step in the sales funnel is to keep high interest for you and be grateful. Follow up with all the new customers you have acquired and ensure they are happy with their product or service.

Contact after your customers to know their satisfaction rate and  for telling them about new deals and services.

Website vs Sales Funnel, why you should choose a sales funnel

The question is websites versus funnels? Or better, Why do I need a sales funnel? Oh, thank you for asking that question.

First of all, How is a traditional website? We analyze the architecture of a traditional website: On top, you've got your logo and there's like a navigation menu, there's a secondary menu, then right here if the visitors click on any of these it drops down a sub-menu with like 20 different options. Then there's like a section here and a section here and a section here and a section here and then, every section they click takes them somewhere else.

Maybe after 80 pages, they visit finally they will find a page with your products. This is the moment when finally you ask for money. That's a traditional website. What does that look like to you?

Let me say, we back at the example above. A customer wants to buy or products but before doing that there is somebody at the door who stops him to ask, do you wanna know about us? Wait, you wanna contact us? Wait, do you want my about page? Wait, do you wanna see my product page?

He will think you are crazy and will buy it in the shop next to you. This is how a traditional website works. It contains many pages which will discourage your customer from buying your products. It's like if you say to your customers: "don't come in, please, I want to confuse you". So you are blocking them and confusing them, they will become like: "I don't know what to do", and they just leave.

So now take that, let's shift that to a funnel. So what is a funnel? We take the example did by Russell Brunson,  CEO  of Clickfunnels in a youtube video, which perfectly explains How does a sales funnel work: "So a funnel is like imagine this person, here's the dude right here coming to your world, he comes into your store. Instead of blocking him or ignoring him, you meet him at the front door and you're like, hey, what's your name?

They're like, oh, my name is Russell. Oh Russell, great to meet you. I want to make sure you have

the best experience possible so step number one, what are you actually looking for?

I'm like, oh, I'm going on a camping trip this weekend.

Cool, so what do you want?

I'm like, I'm actually looking for a tent.

He's like, oh, you want a tent, okay.

And the guy grabs me over here and takes me over to the tents.

He's like, here is the tent section, Russell.

I'm like, oh, sweet, the tent is awesome.

Thank you so much for the tent.

And they're like, what else do you need on this trip you're going on?

I'm like, well, I'm gonna go backpacking with my kids.

Well, do you have a backpack?

    No.

Oh, well, you should get a backpack. And the dude walks me over here and I get a backpack.

And he takes me through a customized sales process specifically for me. That's what a funnel is."

A confused mind always says no, so maybe you could say them, hey, welcome to my landing page. you take them specifically to a page, and they that get exactly what they want. You will convoy them into a very simple sales process. It's a win-win situation where both the parts obtain directly what they want.

It will increase your customer's satisfaction.
